ARTIST STATMENT

All art is about people. It is humankind that makes art and humankind that acknowledges it. So it seems very straightforward to me to make objects in the form we would most recognize; ourselves. Art is about communication and I really thing people connect to the sight of another person in a unique way.

I enjoy making people. Sculpting the human form out of wax or clay is instinctual to me. Simplified figures emphasize what we have in common with all people. Placing these figures in situations is a way to have the viewer put themselves in that situation.

The other tangent my work takes is assembling human structures and environments. Boxes and towers each represent to me humankind's fight against time. They evoke a desire for control and the struggle to make a lasting mark on the landscape, literal or figural.

Art is about teaching, the way archeology teaches us about peoples, and communicating.
