STUFF I SAYThere has been an interesting anecdote on the art front. As we were moving out of our old apartment one of my pieces, "Onlookers, II," was overlooked in the move. Luckily the Prairie Village police department called us to let us know it was still in the basement storage locker. Maintenance had called the police when they found what they thought looked like a dead baby in the basement. My husband was called at work and came over to explain the situation and loaded the wax and glass piece into the car. It was left in the car for two days which was enough time for someone from Nathan's office building to notice a suspicious jar. This time I got to talk to the police. They seemed glad to have someone explain what it was. The episode has made me want to rethink the piece. The whole abortion/fetus thing was only every tangential to what I wanted to say with the work to begin with. It was just supposed to be about protecting and preserving memories. The figure is in a position of venerability because he's not thinking for himself (since he has no visible head) and letting others decide his place in life. It's the same idea as in "Onlookers," the original grouping for that figure, with the other smaller figures by their number and actions deciding how the larger figure reads. There has to be a better way to convey that idea. (8/07)
Not a lot of news. Work is good. I'm spending a lot of my free time playing World of Warcraft. It's more fun than tv and I meet some neat people. My husband started a guild and is really involved in it. It is an Allaince guild on the Malygos server called The Coven. My sister and I are visiting Chicago in November. It will be our first time on a train. We're both really excited. (10/06)
We visited New York City in May. I had a wonderful time. I spent half my time in the city in museums, but I went to see art so that worked out great. Our favorite part of town was Greenwitch Village. Nathan spent lots of time there playing chess. I've put up a small gallery of images from our trip if you are intrested. Click here to see them. (5/17)
I'm really enjoying workig as a Barista right now. I feel like I'm making people's days a little bit better. I'm still working on my art, just on a smaller scale because of facilities. I do figure drawing and some studies in clay from live modeles as well. I find I enjoy working part time and spending energy on projects of my choosing. (4/21)
I don't really update this page very often, only when I really need to say something or to update folks and big events in my life.
